Originally built in 1804 as a well-to-do town house, the Publican's Arms was converted into a beerhouse in 1868. The first record of the pub being called the Publican's Arms was in 1889, and it was named to commemorate the Public House Union Act between England and Scotland signed in 1804, the year the house was built. The Publican's Arms was re-opened under new ownership in July 2004 and has enjoyed welcoming both old and new customers since then.

The Publican's Arms ambition is to provide its customers with great beer in a traditional atmosphere free from blaring music, games machines and wall to wall TVs.

Joe Bloggs, Excel Ale's Pub Director and one of the final judges said, “The Publican's Arms is a superb pub that excelled in all of the areas that Excel Ale takes into consideration when judging this award. On behalf of Excel Ale, I would like to congratulate them on this success and hope the award benefits their future business as it has done for many previous winners.”

We like to think that we at The Publican's Arms are worthy of the accolades that have recently been bestowed upon us. The beer is good, the atmosphere warm but unintrusive, the staff helpful and the mixture of local and visiting customers friendly.

Come and see us soon ... we look forward to meeting you!
